Buchanan County General Assistance office is able to provide assistance to qualifying Buchanan County residents on an emergency need basis. Assistance can be provided as:
• Rent
• Utilities
• Groceries
• Medical/Prescriptions
• Burial
All applicants must meet income eligibility and have applied for all other means of assistance.
Buchanan County General Assistance may give referrals to the Independence Area Food Pantry to individuals in need of food.
Discount prescription cards through Med One are available in the Buchanan County Community Services Office located in the Buchanan Courthouse to any resident regardless of income or insurance coverage.
Buchanan County General Assistance is also the contact point for The Salvation Army.
