FARM LAND FOR RENT BY BUCHANAN COUNTY:  242 acres more or less.  Three year lease. All of the south half of the SW 1/4 Sec. 30, Twp. 89N, Rng. 8W of the 5th PM; the S half of the SE qtr, Sec. 25, the S 700 ft of the E497.8 ft and the N 420 ft of the E 207.4 ft of the SE qtr of the SW qtr, Sec. 25, that part of the NE qtr, Sec. 36, lying N of the railroad; and E 25 acres of the part of the NE qtr of the NW qtr lying N of the railroad, Sec. 36, all in township 89N, Rng. 9W of the 5th P.M. Buchanan County, Iowa.  The operator will maintain reasonable soil fertility.  Payments are due March 1 and October 1, 2011, 2012 and 2013.  Sealed bids will be accepted in the Buchanan County Auditor’s office until 9:45 a.m. Monday, September 27, 2010. Minimum bid $150.00 per acre.  Bids will be opened in the Supervisor’s chambers Monday, September 27, 2010 at 10:00 a.m.  Those submitting sealed bids will be allowed to raise their bids at that time.  Contact the Board of Supervisor’s 319-334-3578 for further information.

Please check eggs in your refrigerator to assure they are not recalled and if they are, return them to the place of purchase or discard them.

Buchanan County has been declared a disaster area by local and state officials.  In response to this declaration, the Buchanan County Disaster Recovery Coalition has been reactivated.  At this time the coalition will be able to assist residents who have standing water in their homes and no means to remove the water.  The coalition is asking those residents to obtain and fill out a Buchanan County Disaster Coalition application, turning them into the Buchanan County Community Services Office, located in the basement of the courthouse, or by calling 319-334-7450. 

 

Members of the coalition are encouraging affected residents to apply for State Assistance.  State Individual Assistance applications are available on line:   http://www.dhs.state.ia.us/docs/Disaster_Assistance_Application_2010No3.pdf.  Completed applications are to be filed with the Buchanan County Community Services Office. 

 

The coalition would like to remind residents needing a listening ear that mental health services are available by calling - 319-334-7450.
